Carbon strategies on farms

QMDC was involved in a project lead by Queensland DAF that supports mixed farmers in the northern grain belt to gain insight into the impact of management practices on soil organic matter and soil health. The project was in partnership with GRDC and aimed to help farmers develop strategies to improve their property soil organic matter and soil carbon.

A mix of Sub-Catchment Planning groups across the region now have paddock level information to base future land management decisions on with respect to impact on overall soil health. This project was finalised in 2015 and supported landholders to potentially try and implement practices such as pasture legume rotations, feedlot manure application and fertiliser strategies.

More information on the project can be found on the GRDC website.
