Healthy landscapes, viable communities

QMDC is compiling an overview of the various values our community places upon water quality in the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin - ecological (the environmental value to aquatic ecosystems and humans), aesthetic, cultural, spiritual, recreational and economic (including primary industries, drinking and industrial).

We need your feedback on why water quality and water source conditions are important to you. Please take few minutes to fill out our survey form. (There are contact details below for returning the 1.7mb Word form. Please note the form includes reference maps.)

This is your chance to have a say on the environmental values you place on water quality in our Basin. The survey form should only take a few minutes to complete but it will have a lasting impact on community-driving work to improve and protect our water resources - our rivers, creeks, swamps, lakes and aquifers.

This survey will allow QMDC to capture a snapshot of the values attached to water and water sources across the relevant catchments. (Maps showing the various catchment are included in the survey document.) This includes both surface water and groundwater including rivers, lakes, alluvial aquifers and artesian water sources.

QMDC is developing Healthy Waters Management Plans (HWMPs) for the Maranoa-Balonne (and Lower Condamine), the Moonie and the Queensland Border Rivers catchments. By completing and returning this survey, you will ensure your interests in water quality and water source condition are included in the pending development of environmental values and water quality objectives for these waterways.

The State Government has declared an interest in the ecological values of all waters in the Queensland. A second map is attached which shows waters which may have High Ecological Value (HEV) and warrant extra protection. Any feedback with your views on HEV waters, or on other HEV waters would be welcome. More detailed maps of your local area can be provided on request.
Please feel free to forward this information to others you think may be interested in participating in this planning process but note that this is about water quality not water quantity.

Any completed surveys or other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Please email the completed form to:

The survey form also gives you the option of providing contact details for you to receive HWMP and QMDC updates.
