Water Use Efficiency
QMDC is currently funding a 
range of water use efficiency projects to help improve rural and urban water management.
Rural Water Use Efficiency
This program offers assistance to irrigators to conduct water loss audits, improve irrigation systems, undertake training, and conduct follow-up monitoring.
Fifty-nine projects have been funded so far, across 28 properties. Projects have included converting furrow irrigation systems to centre pivot and drip irrigation systems, installing moisture probes, and conducting electromagnetic surveys of fields and storage dams.

These projects have been implemented in collaboration with RWUEII, Growcom’s Water for Profit Initiative, and the National Landcare Programme.
Urban Water Use Efficiency
This program mainly targets local governments and provides assistance to undertake projects that will identify inefficiencies in councils’ water infrastructure.
Nine local governments have been funded so far:
- Bendemere Shire Council - grey water recycling, water metering, and rainwater use
- Booringa Shire Council - grey water recycling and reducing unaccounted for water
- Bungil Shire Council - water metering
- Goondiwindi Town Council - reducing unaccounted for water
- Murilla Shire Council - rainwater use, water loss management, effluent re-use, storm water management, and rehabilitation of Chinaman's Lagoon
- Roma Town Council - monitoring bores, improving town sprinkler systems, and storm water management
- Stanthorpe Shire Council - storm water management, and urban water management
- Waggamba Shire Council - reducing unaccounted for water
- Warroo Shire Council - reducing unaccounted for water, tap timers
