Parthenium Rapid Response
This program is supporting a rapid response capability across the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin to eradicate new parthenium outbreaks that occur outside core infestation areas (see map, right).
The Rapid Response Program assists landholders to respond to new outbreaks of parthenium weed in a timely manner, preventing the further spread of the weed.

Under the Rapid Response Program, assistance is available to landholders on private land of up to 30% of the cost of on-ground activities to control and eradicate new outbreaks of parthenium. The Program will be available until December 2008.
When a new outbreak of parthenium has been identified by a landholder, they can report it to any of the following partner organisations:
- QMDC
- South West NRM
- their Local Government
- Biosecurity Queensland
Technical staff from these organisations will provide assistance to landholders by undertaking a site assessment, providing technical advice, and signing off on agreed activities. The landholder is then ultimately responsible to carry out the on-ground control and follow-up management of the site.

This program has been supported by the Natural Heritage Trust ‘Defeating the Weeds Menace'.
