Field Trips
QMDC run two field trip programs for senior students. The programs aim to provide students with field experience. The programs run in alternate years. Read below for more information on each program.
1. Property Planning
This is a hands-on property management program designed for senior secondary agriculture science students. The program includes resources and support for teachers and a field trip to a commercial property.

Students are guided through the process of developing a working property management plan. Students are required to consider natural resource management, environmental, cultural heritage and primary production issues.
The next Property Planning field day will be held in 2012.

2. Habitat Investigation
This program guides students through an investigation of the habitat values of a patch of remnant vegetation. It is targeted at senior secondary geography and biology students. The program includes resources and support for teachers and a field trip to Irongate Conservation Park near Pittsworth.
On the field study students are guided through an examination of the ecological processes and management options for the habitat. The field study provides students with the opportunity to practice field study techniques and utilise scientific equipment.

When: Thursday, August 4, 2011
Where: Irongate Conservation Park, Pittsworth
Who: Aimed at senior secondary biology and geography students
Registrations close Friday, June 24 unless places are filled before-hand.
Cost: $200 for initial school registration plus $10 per student.

Overview of School Involvement
1. Schools register interest in participating in program by Friday, June 24.
2. At the beginning of Term Three teachers will be sent a resource manual containing information on the Irongate Conservation Park, monitoring methodology and background information such as the state of biodiversity in the region, ecosystem processes etc.
3. Students complete some activities (from the teacher resource manual) prior to the field trip.
4. Field trip: Students rotate around activity sites at the Park undertaking various field studies under the guidance of QMDC staff. Thursday, August 4.
5. After returning to school students use the information collected to form a report detailing their recommendations for the management of the Park.
