Committees and working groups

QMDC Regional Aboriginal Advisory Group (RAAG)

The QMDC Regional Aboriginal Advisory Group consists of two representatives (one male and one female) from each of the eight Traditional Owner groups within the region.

The role of the Regional Aboriginal Advisory Group is to:

Provide QMDC with professional and relevant advice in all matters pertaining to Aboriginal involvement in QMDC's core business
Assist QMDC to ensure Aboriginal communities in the region are actively participating in natural resource management planning processes that are compatible with Indigenous governance, protocols and decision-making processes
Disseminate information to Aboriginal people and to relevant Aboriginal groups and organisations about natural resource management issues discussed within the RAAG meetings
Assist QMDC to foster a deeper understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, especially on matters related to natural and cultural heritage
Facilitate the development of good cross cultural awareness between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people (government and non-government) involved in natural resource management in the region.

There are a number of regional Aboriginal groups and committees in the QMDC region, some of which are outlined below. The current structure and advisory role of these groups may change in the future. Regional Aboriginal Elder Women's Steering Committee

The Regional Aboriginal Elder Women's Steering Committee formed on International Rural Women's Day 2006. The Aboriginal Elder Women's Steering Committee is an open and inclusive forum and welcomes the involvement of other interested Elder women across the region. Please direct enquiries to Tim Knox.

St. George Aboriginal Elders

The St. George Aboriginal Elders Group is a member of QMDC. The group meets on the 19th of every month. For the location and time of the next meeting, contact Tim Knox.

Aboriginal Regional Technical Working Group

The working group has provided guidance and direction for the development of the draft Regional Aboriginal Caring for Country Plan. The working group will be absorbed by the RAAG.
