QMDC partnered with Powerlink Queensland (Powerlink) to develop an integrated weed management strategy in the north-west Surat Basin, specifically the areas of Fairview, Wandoan, Wallumbilla and Yuleba.
The partnership helped to manage weed risks in the communities in these four districts and to identify key weed management initiatives.
This project provided benefits to the local community in the form of:
- a documented strategy that also contained a set of tools and resources which are specific and locally relevant
- community days of action conducted in each local area (four in total)
- an education campaign to engage local school children.
The Integrated Weed Management Strategy was finalised after speaking with landholders about issues, for a range of weed species and potential sources, along with future management options.
The strategy was then developed by a cooperative working group consisting of multiple stakeholders including land owners, Local Government, State Government, community organisations, local business and environmental groups, and Powerlink.
