Healthy landscapes, viable communities

Spatial Data Services

Spatial data is used by QMDC to support a range of programs such as sub-catchment planning and regional planning. This includes data on terrain, vegetation, hydrology, soils, climate and imagery.

Spatial information exists as reports (e.g. mining exploration in the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin), tables, maps, imagery and geodatabase (ESRI File geodatabase format). Through GIS software (predominantly ArcGIS), QMDC can analyse and model features such as terrain, hydrology, ecological scenarios (waterCAST, BGI) and progress towards targets in the Regional NRM Plan.

QMDC's GIS staff can overlay property boundaries, remnant vegetation, wildlife corridors, streams, wetlands, erosion/salinty hot spots, land tenure (mining, grazing or conservation) or any other information collected by staff and partners.

Resources

Our catalog of spatial data is extensive and sourced from a wide range of sources. It varies in accuracy from 0.2m for paddock scale soil conservation to 500m for national datasets.

  • Administration and Catchment Boundaries
  • Hydrology: surface and groundwater
  • Terrain: elevation, slope, aspect, contours
  • Biodiversity: remnant vegetation
  • Derived condition products: groundcover, soil carbon

Access to the data

Most of QMDC's spatial data is available to partners and consultants undertaking project work. Data may be made available under a range of licences with restrictions on use. The conditions and restrictions will be specified by the original conditions the custodians (those who own the data) have placed on us the Licencee. Please contact QMDC (contacts below) to discuss specific data requirements and conditions of use.
